10th Monthday!

10 months! So much has changed and so little. Ro is working on movement...he's starting to pull up to standing but isn't quite independent in the matter. He scoots backwards and spins in circles and can push forward on his belly on his tippy toes if something really good is at stake.

What's good to a baby? His favorite toys are wooden kitchen spatulas, stacked blocks, an egg shaker, and especially anything with a button. He loves his musical toy cube, my car key fob, and the red button on the flip videocamera. Any of it merits the tippy toe push. He's recorded several vignettes with the video camera facing the inside of his hands. And he set off the car panic button exactly once (because after that he only got to play with a non-active key fob). A Fisher rep. came by to talk the other day about my lab startup and left a couple credit-card sized promotional giveaways with buttons that turn on LED lights. Baby heaven!

Last week Ro started saying "mama" for the first times, and he woke up on his 10 monthday saying "dada." He now uses both pretty indiscriminately but both sounds sweet to our ears. He tries to make funny noises with his fingers in his mouth, and loves it when we do that with ours.

A day in the life:
Ro starts his weekdays with one or the other of his grownups getting ready in the morning, then off to daycare. He hangs out with his infant posse and their three teachers until 3 when one of us picks him up while the other works later. This is a great time for walks, grocery shopping, and toppling towers of stacked blocks unless he only napped once at daycare in which case zzzzzz. We usually trade places around 5:30 and eventually start to make dinner, feed Ro another meal (he loves solid foods of all kinds), and wind down towards bedtime just after 7.

This weekend we had the neighbors over for dinner, went to a daycare picnic, worked a bunch, cleaned the house, and went for a walk along the river. It's impossible to stay caught up with everything that has to happen, so it almost makes it easier to take a few breaks for fun (if that mountain isn't going away anyway...).

There is Ro poised to go for our river wander (the jogging stroller makes even pretty rough trails passable). It turned cold so we bundled him up (practice for winter!).

Two weekends ago some friends from Boston came to stay with their 7 week old baby. Baby B&B!!! It was amazing to see such a young baby and remember all we went through to get here. You've come a long way, Baby! They took a picture of the three of us since Ro's daycare is making a families poster for his room. We've all come a long way.

P.S. Want more pictures? The best of the ones I took this week are on picasa.

  1. I can't believe how much bigger and older Ro looks! What a wonderful place for him to be growing up - being near all those woods and water has to be good for you.

    Baby feet!
